The U.S.S. Newport News (CA-148) moved from Norfolk on 5 September 1967 for a six-month deployment to Southeast Asia. She arrived at Da Nang, South Vietnam, on 9 October 1967 and became the flagship of ComCruDesFlot 3. She participated in attacks against targets in North Vietnam as part of Operation Sea Dragon. U.S.S. Newport News subsequently became involved in combat in Vietnam in 1968 and 1972.

Genuine carrier for the XM28 "Grasshopper" riot control mask. Still sealed in the original 1969 government packaging. Rare NOS condition. Famous "Tunnel Rat" gear.

A pristine vintage US Army Special Forces Beret dated August 1973. Manufactured by the highly collectible "Fleur de Lis" (Dorothea Knitting Mills), known for producing the best-shaped berets of the Vietnam era. It features a vintage 3rd Special Forces Group flash with the desirable "Cut Edge" construction and a pinned DUI crest. Note: Size is 6 1/4(extra small), making this a perfect display piece rather than wearable items.

The vest was tested by the 1st Cavalry Division in Vietnam from January to May 1967, and although it was too heavy for foot mobile operations, it was recommended for personnel involved in escorting convoys and motorized patrols.

This cap features the distinctive gold bullion oak leaf embroidery on the visor (commonly known as "Scrambled Eggs"), designating the rank of Major through Colonel. Manufactured by Berkshire De Luxe as a high-quality private purchase item. The size is an incredibly rare 7 3/4 (approx. 62 cm). Finding vintage headgear in this size is exceptionally difficult. A highly desirable Technical Manual (TM 9-1005-249-14) dated August 1966. This manual is a treasure trove for early Vietnam War collectors. It covers the maintenance and repair of the M16 and XM16E1 rifles, but its primary value lies in the inclusion of the XM148 40mm Grenade Launcher. The XM148 was an experimental, failure-prone predecessor to the M203, used briefly by US Special Forces. Original documentation for the XM148 is extremely scarce.
