This type of vest is one of the test pieces produced during WWII. While the US. Army preferred to use metal plates, the USN and USMC tested the DORON material.
The material was named after Gen. G. F. Doriot, who commanded the Research and Development Branch, Office of the Quartermaster General.

Original unused USMC Paramarines parachute blouse - Uniform, utility, HBT, Camouflage (Parachutist). Size 38. The blouse was worn under a second type (camouflage) parachute coat. The fabric has two different shades of material on the back see photos.
